From March to December 2015 the cultivated Milieukeur area of fruit and vegetable products increased with 488 hectares (14.2%) to 3.927 hectares.

The total Milieukeur plant products area - including tree nurseries – increased with 9% from 4.932 hectares to 5.376 hectares. The cultivation was realised by 185 (trade)companies who grow a large product range of Milieukeur products. Part of the cultivation takes place outside the Netherlands (Germany, Spain, Italy and South-Africa).


  • GROWTH OPEN CULTIVATION POTATOES, VEGETABLES AND BARLEY (+14%)
    The open cultivation area increased from 2.811 hectares in March to 3.204 hectares in December, while the number of (trade)companies stayed almost equal (from 89 to 88).

    Milieukeur products: potatoes – endive - asparagus - beet - broccoli – courgettes - barley and spelt – aromatic herbs – cabbage - lupine – pak choy – carrot – leek – celery – celiac - lettuce – spinach – Brussel sprouts - cress - onions – chicory

  • GROWTH OPEN CULTIVATION FRUIT (+12.4%)
    In March the area cultivated with fruit consisted of 451 hectares. On the 1st of December this area had increased to 507 hectares, with a growth of 19 to 21 (trade)companies.

    Milieukeur products: apples – blueberries - raspberries – blackberries (currents) – kiwiberries - citrus fruits - cherries - pears – prunes

  • GROWTH PROTECTED CULTVATION (+22%)
    The Protected cultivation grew from March to December 2015 from 177 hectares to 216 hectares and from 27 to 34 (trade)companies.

    Milieukeur products: aubergines (eggplant) – (snack) cucumber - herbs - mushrooms – (snack)sweet pepper – chilli pepper– lettuce - tomato’s (including cherry- and snack tomato’s) – chicory

  • SMALL DECREASE OPEN CULTIVATION TREE NURSERIES (-2.9%)
    The tree nursery branch showed a small decrease. The area decreased from 1.493 hectares in March to 1.449 hectares in December, and the number of (trade)companies decreased from 47 to 42.
