In 2020, the area of plant products grown according to the requirements of On the way to PlanetProof grew by 26% to 43,579 hectares. The area of more sustainably managed land for dairy cows increased slightly to 46,500 hectares.
With a total acreage of 90,000 hectares, this independent top-quality mark* provides a major boost to making the agricultural sector in the Netherlands and other European countries more sustainable.
On the Way to PlanetProof is in line with the Circular Vision (Kringloopvisie) of Minister Schouten. Companies with a product certificate of this quality mark meet above-standard requirements and thus make an extra contribution to clean air, fertile soil, good water quality, nature on the farm, animal health and welfare, and recycling. On the way to PlanetProof is an open and independent standard that is accessible to all companies that wish to participate.

The On the way to PlanetProof area of table potatoes, and vegetables and herbs open cultivation amounts to 47% of the total Dutch area, for fruit it is 35%.
Growth of certificate holders
As of December 2020, there are 1,583 farmers and growers who are making their crop production sustainable based on the On the Way to PlanetProof criteria. There are also 96 more trading companies certified. This represents a growth of 14.8% compared to 2019.
